Every story
begins with
a spark.

Whether it’s a memoir, a poem, or a journey down a dusty road, I write to connect us to where we’ve been, what we carry, and what still lies ahead.

“Stories rooted in truth.”

About the Author

A writer, traveler & keeper of memories.

Born in California and raised on the road, I learned early how to find meaning in movement and strength in storytelling. My books are grounded in real experiences — memoirs drawn from my ever-changing childhood, poetry shaped by life’s seasons, and stories born from an unshakable love for people and place.

When I’m not writing, I run a travel company called Wander Tribe, encouraging others to Just Go — to explore the world and find their own stories along the way.

The Controller's Chair

Nobody hands you a manual when they hand you the keys to the books.

Mica Boyd Johnston never set out to be a corporate controller. But when the chair was suddenly hers, she learned the job the way most real lessons are learned — under pressure, in public, and with no room for error. Over eight years she steered a multi-entity industrial company through cash crunches, audits, a global pandemic, and the daily tightrope of being the person everyone counts on but no one has to listen to.

The Controller's Chair is a memoir about accountability without authority — about holding the line when you don't hold the power, earning trust one hard conversation at a time, and discovering that the most important numbers in any business are the people behind them. Part war story, part field guide, it's for anyone who's ever been asked to do a job bigger than their title.

“These poems spoke straight to my heart. Every line felt like something I didn’t know I needed to hear. Honest, raw, and filled with emotion — this book has a permanent spot on my nightstand.”

“This is a great short story book for all ages. I was touched by the sincerity and down-to-earth story about the difficulties of growing up, particularly when you can't control your own circumstances. All of us have been impacted by the decisions our parents made, for better or worse. Again, great book!”

“Mica’s writing took me right back to my own childhood. Her stories are so vivid and honest, I felt like I was riding in the backseat with her family, traveling down those dusty roads. Beautifully written and deeply moving.”
